A balance and harmony state is achieved: the mind is clear and concentrated hic et nunc; the mind is free from the past experiences influences and from the future anxieties, allowing the individual to fully experience every life instant, accoding to his/her potential.
The psychological and physical effets deriving from the yoga practice can be summarized as following (Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, 2013; Faulds, 2009; Forbes, 2011; Lee, 1997; Mc Call, 2007; Mohan, 2004; Nischela Joy Devi, 2000; Stearns 2013; Swami Yogapratap, 2010):
According to the studies led by Benson & Wallace, authors of the article “The physiology of meditation”, during meditation the alfa waves linked to the relaxing and sleep state prevail. They can be from time to time accompanied by the theta waves linked to the dream and creativity state; they are rarely accompanied by the delta waves linked to the deep sleep state, which occur in the very advanced meditation sessions.
According to Kasamatsu & Hirai, authors of the article “An electroencephalographic study on the Zen meditation
(Zazen)”, the theta waves prevail during the zen meditation practiced by zazen monks.
