Psychological Therapy

Gaia Bergamaschi, psychotherapist psychologist, registered in the Association of the Psychologists of Lombardy n. 18966, is the founder of Studio Jyotir. Her mission is to support the individuals who are affected by psychological disturbances and/or who are experiencing critical phases in their personal, professional and relational growth paths. The current frenetic pace society is affected by a “Promethean gap” underlying the relationship between the homus faber and the technologies; the clinical dialogue might act as the “holding” described by Winnicott, promoting the authenticity of one’s self and its alignment with the more intimate aspirations. According to the classical analytical model, the analytical relationship might accompany the patient towards the acquisition of the insight and of the self-awareness, through the experience of the “optimal frustration”, in addition to the transfert and to the interpretation technique. According to the contemporary psychoanalysis, the transfert becomes an evolutionary experience, thanks to those “corrective emotional experiences” the patient shares with the therapist who accomplishes the Kohut “self-object” functions. Yoga Therapy

Through the constant practice, the yogi develops physical, mental and spiritual awareness, in addition to learning the ability to control one’s alternate emotional phases. A balance and harmony state is achieved: the mind is clear and concentrated hic et nunc; the mind is free from the past experiences influences and from the future anxieties, allowing the individual to fully experience every life instant, accoding to his/her potential.
The psychological and physical effets deriving from the yoga practice can be summarized as following (Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, 2013; Faulds, 2009; Forbes, 2011; Lee, 1997; Mc Call, 2007; Mohan, 2004; Nischela Joy Devi, 2000; Stearns 2013; Swami Yogapratap, 2010):

  • The body alignment and the correction of the asymmetries which are unconsciously adopted during daily life;
  • The elimination of the toxins through the warmth and sweating produced during the asana;
  • The body purification, the increase of the breathing capacity and the augmentation of the blood oxygen which nourishes organs and glands;
  • The reduction of the tensions and of the stress through the muscles release.

According to the studies led by Benson & Wallace, authors of the article “The physiology of meditation”, during meditation the alfa waves linked to the relaxing and sleep state prevail. They can be from time to time accompanied by the theta waves linked to the dream and creativity state; they are rarely accompanied by the delta waves linked to the deep sleep state, which occur in the very advanced meditation sessions.
According to Kasamatsu & Hirai, authors of the article “An electroencephalographic study on the Zen meditation
(Zazen)”, the theta waves prevail during the zen meditation practiced by zazen monks.
