“Yoga is a technique of asceticism and a method of contemplation that can be expressed in specific practices preparatory to liberation.”
Mircea Eliade
The book was born from the intent to foster a dialogue between yoga and psychology, Vidya Setu, inspired by a comparison between Vedānta (Advaita and Dvaita) and the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali, with some protagonists of classical and contemporary psychoanalysis. Yoga can offer a notable contribution to current psychological and psychoanalytic currents, acting as an integration tool for behavioral and introspective growth, giving emphasis to states of higher consciousness. Jung had already conceived yoga as an expression of the psychology of the unconscious, qualifying as “pre-Kantian” or “pre-psychological” the method of liberation from opposites that is accomplished through the suppression of the ego according to the fundamental assumptions of yogic discipline. Further insights into these themes can be viewed in the Jungian Extract of the book. Combining specific yogatherapeutic elements with relational psychoanalysis, in a realist perspectivist epistemology, can increase the effectiveness of the therapeutic action; yoga in fact appears as a non-verbal communication tool to be used alongside the more traditional dialectical-symbolic channels. Yoga transmits benefits that are also explained with reference to a protocol created by the author, applied in the context of dysbiosis and related anxiety, stress and depression disorders. The longing is that yoga becomes a catalyst for orientations in which the personality is understood as a biopsychospiritual totality, recognizing the levels of being conscious, unconscious, superconscious or somatic, emotional, soul-like.
